Full bio

Hexial is the electronic music project of Nottingham-based musician Alex Herington. His journey began in the early days of home computing, writing breakbeat on an Amiga 1200 tracker, before co-founding the dark synth-pop band Method Cell in 2009 — a group that went on to release two albums and continues performing to this day.

Although he had built up a significant body of solo work over the years, it wasn't until the COVID lockdowns that Alex carved out the time to consolidate and release his own material. The project officially launched in 2022 with the debut album Preliminal Space, followed by Orbit and State in 2023, and Through Static in November 2025.

Influenced by pioneers such as Plaid, Orbital, and Aphex Twin, Hexial's sound blends melodic electronica, IDM, glitch, and cinematic ambience into music that feels both expansive and intimate. Written using a hybrid of software and modular synths, his tracks often evoke hazy city skylines at dusk, shifting textures, and the pulsing electricity of urban nights.

Beyond the studio, Hexial's aesthetic extends into experimental 3D visuals, video work, and custom-built stage lighting, creating a live experience that is as visually engaging as it is sonically immersive.

Alex has been active in Nottingham's grassroots electronic scene, including co-organising EMOM Nottingham (Electronic Music Open Mic) until 2026.
